Overview

Falls represent a significant injury risk with age, yet most are preventable. Able Assess is a screening tool that evaluates balance, strength, and mobility to identify fall risk early.

What Is Able Assess?

Able Assess is a rapid assessment instrument featuring:

Four Assessment Components

1. Grip Strength

Measures overall body strength using a hand-held device. Results are compared against age and gender norms, as lower grip strength correlates with increased fall risk.

2. Chair to Stand Test

Evaluates lower limb strength through repeated chair stands without arm use—essential for standing, walking, and balance maintenance.

3. Timed Up & Go (TUG)

Assesses balance and mobility by timing a sequence of standing, walking three meters, turning, and sitting. Times of 12+ seconds may indicate elevated fall risk.

4. Gait Speed

Measures walking speed over four meters at normal pace. Walking speeds below 0.8 m/s correlate with increased risk and reduced independence.

Post-Screening Process

Fall Assessment Report: Results summary highlighting strengths and risk areas

Result Sharing: Option to distribute findings to primary care providers, specialists, or family

Next Steps Report: Evidence-based recommendations for "at-risk" individuals, including balance classes, physical therapy, or home modifications
